Ansel Elgort, an American musician and actor, made his screen debut in a supporting role in the 2013 horror film Carrie. Manhattan was Elgort’s birthplace. His parents are opera director Grethe Barrett Holby and fashion photographer Arthur Elgort, who has worked extensively for Vogue for more than thirty years. Notably, His mother is of English, German, and Norwegian background, while his father is of Russian-Jewish descent.

Additionally, Elgort’s two elder siblings are photographer Sophie and film editor Warren. His mother took him to the School of American Ballet to try out when he was nine years old. Moreover, He went to summer camp at Stagedoor Manor, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, and The Professional Performing Arts School. From 2012 to 2016 (Acting Career)

Only a few months after turning eighteen, Elgort made his stage debut in an Off-Broadway production of Regrets in March 2012, which marked the beginning of his professional acting career. In the 2013 reimagining of Carrie, he made his screen debut as the prom date of the main heroine, a pivotal supporting part. His first widely recognized performance was as the primary character’s sibling, Caleb Prior, in the 2014 film Divergent. Elgort was cast as Augustus Waters in the movie adaptation of John Green’s novel The Fault in Our Stars, starring opposite Shailene Woodley as Hazel Grace Lancaster, as soon as the Divergent production wrapped up.

June 6, 2014, saw the release of the film, which was directed by Josh Boone. Subsequently, Elgort acted alongside Timothée Chalamet, a classmate at LaGuardia, in the dramatic picture Men, Women & Children, which was directed by Jason Reitman and released in October 2014. Elgort received a 2014 list of the top actors under the age of twenty. In Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, an adaptation of the 1957 stage musical of the same name, Elgort, portrayed the title character, Tony. Upon its release in 2021, the movie received positive reviews and earned seven nominations at the 94th Academy Awards, including Best Picture. 

Elgort then starred in HBO Max’s Tokyo Vice, a television adaptation of a nonfiction biography by journalist Jake Adelstein. Michael Mann and Destin Daniel Cretton directed the show’s episodes, with scripts by J.T. Rogers. Additionally, Elgort was an executive producer on the series besides portraying Adelstein in the lead role. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the series’ development to halt, but it eventually restarted, and in 2022 it made a successful debut on HBO Max. 


Elgort made a SoundCloud account under the name Ansolo to provide electronic dance music, and he has remixed songs like Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die”. Additionally, He announced that he had inked a record deal with Steve Angello’s Size Records and Tom Staar’s new label, Staar Traxx, during a livestream in February 2014.
On April 21, 2014, he made his debut album, Unite, available on Beatport and on May 5, 2014, on iTunes. Subsequently, July 21, 2014, saw the release of his second album, Totem, on Beatport and iTunes. Released in September 2015, his single “To Life” is a Bar Mitzvah-themed song with klezmer influences.

Elgort performed on the main stages of the Electric Zoo Festival in 2014, the Ultra Music Festival in March 2015, a red-light dance music event in Amsterdam in 2014, and several gigs opening for The Chainsmokers, Nervo, and other friends Nicky Romero and Martin Garrix. On his 21st birthday, he performed as the main act at Pacha, NYC. Eventually, He secured a record contract with Island/Universal Records in 2015, and on July 8, 2016, he released “Home Alone,” his debut single under the label.

He went by Ansel Elgort and released a single titled “Thief” on February 3, 2017. The music video featured ballet dancer Violetta Komyshan, his girlfriend. On the song “Killing Spree” from rapper Logic’s third studio album, Everybody, which was released on May 5, 2017. He released the track “Supernova” on January 11, 2018. He featured on Don Diablo’s 2018 single “Believe” and contributed vocals for the song.
