ASAP Rocky is an American rapper and record producer. He got his nickname from the hip-hop group “ASAP Mob,” of which he is a member. At the age of nine, Mayers moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and started rapping. Rocky learned to rhyme from his older brother, who also wore the Cornrows haircut that A$AP Mayers eventually took on. Someone murdered Mayer’s brother in Harlem when he was thirteen. Mayers became more serious about rapping as a result of the death. Mayers was a fan of the Harlem-based rap duo The Diplomats growing up. Immediately Rocky’s older brother’s influence led to him starting to rap when he was a young boy. He adopted the pseudonym “ASAP” after joining the Harlem-based group “ASAP Mob” in 2007. When his debut song, “Purple Swag,” was released in July 2011, it quickly became a New York City hit and catapulted him into the rap scene.
His song “Peso,” which was leaked online in August 2011, was played on the well-known Hot 97 New York radio station quite rapidly. On March 27, he released the track “Bad Company”. Rapper Bloc Boy JB appears on it, and its marketing makes more references to testing. “ASAP Forever” was his second single, which he released on April 5. The song samples produced Moby’s 2000 hit “Porcelain” and credits him as a featured artist.
Mayers released Testing on May 25, 2018, to largely favorable reviews from reviewers. It was Mayers’ third consecutive top-five album on the list when it debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200, although it was also another poorly-selling record. The album fell to number 15 in its second week of release, selling 26,000 album-equivalent units (1,000 copies). Testing fell to number 22 on the chart the next week.
A music video for a remix of Monica’s “Knock” titled “Potato Salad” was released on July 23, 2018, by Mayers and Tyler, The Creator, as part of AWGE’s “AWGE DVD (Vol. 3)” to promote their joint project, WANGSAP. On January 23, 2019, Tyler, the Creator, however, declared that this album never happened.

Juicy J revealed in May 2019 that Mayers has started production on his new album, which was previously known as All Smiles. Mayers made two appearances on songs off of Nigo’s March 25, 2022, album I Know Nigo! including the lead single “Arya” and the opening track “Lost and Found Freestyle 2019” featuring Tyler, the Creator.
Mayers released two singles in 2022: “D.M.B.” in May and “Shittin’ Me” in December. He also had an appearance on the December tune “Feel the Fiyaaaah” from producer Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains album. He further stated that they would release a new album with Metro Boomin’s production in the future. He named his upcoming fourth album, Don’t Be Dumb, later that month.
