Actor and musician Joseph David Keery, better known by his stage name Djo, is an American. In addition to starring in the comedy film Free Guy (2021) and the fifth season of the criminal drama series Fargo (2023–2024), he gained notoriety for his role as Steve Harrington on the science fiction television series Stranger Things (2016–present). He was a member of the psychedelic rock group Post Animal. He has recorded two solo studio albums, Decide (2022) and Twenty Twenty (2019). The latter produced the sleeper hit and first entrance into the Billboard Hot 100, “End of Beginning,” after going viral on the TikTok short-form video platform in 2024.

On April 24, 1992, Joe Keery was born in Newburyport, a small, famous, and gorgeous beachside city in Essex County, Massachusetts, in the United States. Thomas R. Keery II and Laura Keery are his parents. Kate and Emma, his twin sisters, are among his four sisters. Keery attended River Valley Charter School for his education before attending Newburyport High School.
He joined Theater in the Open, a well-known performing expressions camp hosted in Maudslay State Park in Newburyport because he had a strong passion for performing expressions since a young age. His time in the camp made him adore being put to death, and he continued acting in high school after one of his sisters made him. After that, he enrolled at DePaul University’s Theater School, where he eventually graduated in 2014.

Keery had appearances in Empire and Chicago Fire in addition to appearing in KFC, Domino’s, and Amiibo commercials before his breakthrough performance in Stranger Things. Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party, an independent film directed by Stephen Cone, featured him in the lead role for the first time.
Keery made his big-screen debut as Steve in the science fiction series Stranger Things on Netflix. Keery is not just an actor but also a musician. He recorded songs under the moniker “Cool Cool” in his early twenties. Keery played drums and guitar for the garage and psych-rock group Post Animal, based in Chicago. October 2015 saw the release of their debut album. Keery played guitar and lead vocals on the group’s second album When I Think Of You In A Castle, which was released in April 2018. Keery left the band in 2019 because he had acting commitments, and he was no longer touring with them. 

As a solo artist, Keery released the single “Roddy” on July 19, 2019, under the stage name Djo. On August 9, 2019, Keery released a follow-up single under the same name, titled “Chateau (Feel Alright)”. 2019 saw the release of Keery’s first album as Djo, Twenty Twenty, on September 13.
